REMOTE: Map Data Volunteer
Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team

Description

Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) works with humanitarian organizations and first responders to provide map data which revolutionizes disaster management, reduces risks, and contributes to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. We leverage a global community of more than 160,000 volunteers to contribute to the global map.

As a mapping volunteer, you can get involved with projects around the world and contribute to humanitarian mapping through an app called Mapswipe (available in your app store). Using Mapswipe, volunteers can scan through satellite imagery, tapping in images where they find features (ie: buildings, roadways, etc.). Tap once in any square where you identify the feature, tap twice in any square that is 'maybe,' and tap three times if the image is a poor quality. In just two minutes, you can help put 1km of a community on the map!

Mapswipe is a simple to use app for smartphones that allows volunteering to fit your schedule. Use Mapswipe during your morning and evening commutes, while in line for your morning coffee, or as a brain break at the office. With your help, we can ensure that individuals affected by humanitarian crises receive the life-saving aid.
