Description
On October 10, Riverkeeper will be cleaning up the shoreline of East River Park in Manhattan. There are two coves in the park that attract a lot of rubbish from the passing East River. We have done shoreline cleanups at this site as part of Riverkeeper's Annual Sweep for many years, but trash has accumultated at the site and it could use a cleanup before winter.
If left on the shore, debris can resuspend during a high tide and become marine debris, which threatens our river wildlife. The most common items we remove from shorelines are styrofoam, plastic bottles and plastic bags, which all pose significant risks to our natural environment.
What to bring:
Wear sturdy shoes or boots, clothing you don't mind getting a little dirty. Bring a hat, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle. Please bring work gloves if you have them. You can pick some up at any hardware store for $1-$2.
