Adapted Aquatics is a learn-to-swim program for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers will receive training to work one-on-one with participants in the water to strengthen and develop basic swim skills. Volunteers should be strong swimmers, be comfortable in the water and have a passion for working with others.
Minimum age: 16
We are looking for energetic, positive individuals who want to volunteer with Adults Going Places, a social club facilitated by the Arlington County Therapeutic Recreation office for individuals 30+ years old with physical and developmental disabilities. Volunteers will assist staff to ensure that Social Club members are engaged in activities and assist with set up/clean up. Once a volunteer has assisted at meetings they may be asked to volunteer for trips as needed. Adults Going Places meets once per month on the 1st Friday of the month from 6:30 - 8:30pm (October May) to plan an outing and engage in activities like arts, games, and movement. The group meets from 6:30 - 8:30 pm, volunteers are asked to be present from 6:15 - 8:45pm.

Arlington Palooza needs volunteers to assist with this musical event full of live bands, art, games and outdoor activities. Volunteers will assist with set-up, games, art activities, supervising "fun" stations and break down of the event. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and able to stand for long periods of time. Arlington Palooza is Saturday, April 20, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Family Fun Night is a wonderful opportunity for families who have a child (or children) with disabilities to network with other families while participating in fun-filled activities. The program consists of activity centers that are open for families to do, along with a different specialty visitor each month. Volunteers are asked to assist with the activity centers, art projects, set up/clean-up of equipment, and to assist families and children during the program time with art projects or other activities. This is a great opportunity for someone with the interest in, but limited experience with, children with disabilities.The 2019 schedule is: October 5th , 2018November 2nd, 2018December 7th, 2018January 4th, 2019February 1st, 2019March 1st, 2019April 5th, 2019May 3rd, 2019

Volunteer to assist with Family Night events at Arlington Mill. Family Nights is a monthly drop in program for all ages to have fun, play and spend time as a family. Volunteers will assist with games, crafts and other activities. All Family Nights are on the first Friday of the month. Upcoming nights are:Party at the North Pole on December 7, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.Everyone's Birthday Pajama Party on January 4, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Phoenix Bikes has supported local youth in the DC Metro area since 2007 providing a safe, nurturing and educational environment that reinforces teamwork, hard work, and entrepreneurship through bike maintenance and education programs. Our mission is to educate youth, promote bicycling, and build community. Be a part of the Phoenix Bikes community as a volunteer! There are weekly and year-round opportunities to help with bike repair, bike shop operations, or leading youth rides. We also have other regular volunteer opportunities including event and administrative support.

Volunteer to assist in the DPR Plant Nursery. Volunteers will help DPR staff with preparing seeds, planting, dividing plants and preparing nursery stock for planting in Arlington County parks. You don't have to be a gardening expert, we will provide training.Work hours are Thursdays from 3 - 5 p.m. (spring & summer) and from 2 - 4 p.m. (fall/winter).

Join your neighbors one day every month as they restore the area's natural plant communities. Help remove plants like English ivy and bush honeysuckle which threaten the health of Arlington's parks and natural areas. If you have your own garden gloves and tools, please bring them along. Some supplies will be provided. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, including long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, and perhaps a hat. You may also want to bring along a reusable water bottle. For ages 9 to adult. If under 16 you must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event. On-site training on plant identification and removal techniques will be provided. The Walter Reed Senior Center is looking for a creative, energetic, organized volunteer leader for the new sensory garden. Volunteer will help coordinate work days, meet/train new volunteers, and work with staff to ensure progress with the garden project. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. Hours are flexible but must be able to meet during the day at least once per month. Gardening experience preferred, but not required.
