Are you interested in becoming certified and licensed to use herbicides on public lands? The Forest Preserves of Cook County hosts Herbicide test sessions to help experienced FPCC Ecological Stewardship Volunteers earn an Illinois Pesticide (Herbicide) License. 15+ hours of reported stewardship experience or the recommendation of FPCC staff or a site steward is required for enrollment. This license is required for Ecological Stewardship Volunteers who want to apply herbicide at restoration sites.

* To order manuals and workbooks, see the attachment "Supply Request form" in the Requirements tab. The books will then be delivered to a supply pick-up location or they may be emailed to you.

*Gloves, bags, refreshments and training will be provided
*Dress for the weather and to work along the river. Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Dressing in layers and wearing a hat is recommended
*Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
*Overflow parking is available at Stella's (3903 Joliet Ave, Lyons, IL)



Description

The seasons are turning so you know it's almost time for Fall Fest! Friendly volunteers are needed to greet visitors on event day, help with activity stations, lead arts and craft and more.


Experience a full day of festivities by supporting our 9am-4pm shift. For those who cannot commit to the full shift, split-shifts are available from 9am-1pm and 12pm-4pm.

Requirements

- Assist Nature Center staff in leading crafts for children, greeting visitors, storytelling and more

- Assignments will be given the day of the event and will vary based on interest, experience and skill

- Volunteers under age 18 must bring a signed Waiver the day of the event. See the attachment called "Volunteer Waiver"

- Parking is limited on-site. Additional parking is available a short walk from Lake Avenue Woods and Allison Woods picnic groves

- Continental breakfast and lunch provided for volunteers

- Dress for the weather - volunteers will be both inside and outside

- Online registration and criminal background check required



Description

Do you climb the Swallow Cliff Stairs? Consider joining a new "herd" of volunteers comitted to keeping the stairs free of trash and debris. Littler cleanup climbs will take place the 1st Tuesday of the month through November. Supplies will be provided.
