Parks - Open Space Division

The Trail Maintenance Team (TMT) is perfect for individuals who want to help rangers maintain the roads and trails that traverse the Marin County Parks preserve system. The ideal person is willing to get their hands dirty and take part in strenuous work using hand tools and small power equipment. It is a great way to gain experience in trail maintenance and construction. The TMT works with the Open Space District road and trail crew on a variety of trail improvement and restoration projects throughout the entire preserve system.

Broom Busters

Parks - Open Space Division

Old St. Hilary's Open Space Preserve has a friend in the Broom Buster team, a loyal group of volunteers who have worked together to remove French broom on the preserve for over 20 years. In that time, incredible progress has been made to suppress the broom regrowth and allow native species to recover and thrive. Come learn about the importance of invasive species removal and lend a hand! Our partners at the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) assist with volunteer recruitment. To participate, please register for the event at CVNL Event Registration. Questions? Contact Marin County Parks Volunteer Coordinator Greg Reza at GReza@marincounty.org or (415) 473-3778.

Horse Hill Broom Removal

Parks - Open Space Division

This tiny Mill Valley preserve, with small drainages and natural springs, is home to native wildlife and to horses. For years, we've worked with volunteers from the Alto Bowl Horseowners Association removing invasive, non-native French and Scotch broom, but a large infestation still remains. There is strength in numbers: we need more volunteers right now to control the existing population and prevent further expansion, though our ultimate goal is eradication. To participate, contact Volunteer Coordinator Greg Reza at GReza@marincounty.org or (415) 473-3778.
