Volunteer with IICF

Opportunity Details

REMOTE: Volunteer Mapper
Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team

Description

Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) works with humanitarian organizations and first responders to provide map data which revolutionizes disaster management, reduces risks, and contributes to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

--

As a mapping volunteer, you can get involved with projects around the world and contribute to humanitarian mapping through OpenStreetMap. Even if you are a new mapper, anyone can use a computer and simple, online tools to create basemaps by drawing over buildings and roads. Volunteering with HOT is a flexible, remote opportunity suitable for individuals of all backgrounds and skill sets. In as little as one hour, volunteers can help put entire communities on the global map, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian response and development activities.

If you have never mapped before and would like to get involved, visit the Tasking Manager's Learn Page to create your account, watch our video tutorials, and begin making a sustainable impact.
