How Do I Get Started
Choosing to become a volunteer at Texas Children's Hospital is a big commitment, so there are a number of steps we ask everyone to complete in order to ensure you are prepared to volunteer in a hospital setting.
Adult volunteers are asked to:In order to help you become a successful volunteer, all of the following steps must be completed in this order.
- Complete an online volunteer application.
- Provide proof of a negative TB skin test from the current calendar year. Once you complete your application we will share additional information via email on how to complete this step
- Be invited for a personal interview with Volunteer Services. During the interview we will work with you to find an appropriate volunteer placement and schedule for you.
- Bring a copy of the completed application, health screening form, proof of a negative TB test, consent for a criminal background check and confidentiality agreement with you to your personal interview. At this time we will work with you to find the right volunteer placement and schedule for you.
- Attend a 90 minute orientation covering general hospital policies and procedures.
- Attend a training session specific to your volunteer placement to learn more about exactly how you will give back to Texas Children's Hospital.
Once you complete the online application we will review your application and then provide additional information on how to complete each of these steps. To ensure all volunteers are prepared to volunteer in the Hospital setting, the entire application process usually takes about a month.
